Manitou Elevated Work Platform Licence Training

Work safer at heights — achieve your Manitou licence with All Class Training

Elevated work platforms (EWPs) are used to safely lift a person up into a higher position to complete their job. Say you’re a window washer and have a task to clean the windows of a high-rise building — you wouldn’t just climb a ladder with a bucket of water and a sponge and hope you don’t fall off while cleaning.

Instead, you’d take the safe approach and use an EWP. This way, you can place your equipment next to you on the platform and be safely elevated to the height you need.

EWPs are commonly used for:

  • Construction projects
  • Building maintenance projects such as cleaning
  • Steel erection
  • “Up and Over” clearance

At All Class Training, we use the Manitou 160 ATJ+ EWP to teach our students safe working practices. The Manitou 160 is a 4-wheel drive diesel-powered articulated platform that can hold up to three workers at a time and up to 160kgs of materials. The “Up and Over” clearance is 7m and the platform can be raised to the working height of 16.25m height.

By completing EWP and working at heights training, you will walk away with the skills and knowledge required to use an EWP both safely and efficiently. You will be trained in our purpose-built facility and operate an EWP in a safe, secure environment under the guidance of our trainers.

With a 99% student pass rate, we can almost guarantee you will achieve your Manitou licence with All Class Training. View our course calendar and book your Manitou training via (02) 4964 9406 today. We offer both individual and group training, so you can become proficient with a Manitou EWP as a team.

Manitou 160 ATJ+ specifications

As a Manitou operator, it is important to understand the limitations of the EWP. Below, we have set out all the essential information you need to know about the Manitou EWP.

Lifting Height 14.21m
Lifting Capacity 400kg

What you will learn from our Manitou training

In a short one day course with All Class Training, we will cover:

  • Planning and preparing for operations
  • Hazard identification and risk control
  • Conducting equipment checks
  • Safe set up and use including attachments and stabilisers
  • Selecting, fitting and removing attachments
  • Interpret load charts to ensure safe load shifting
  • Safe load movement
  • Fault reporting procedures
  • Shut down and securing of plant.

At the end of our Manitou course, you will need to pass practical and theory assessments. If you are successful, you will be issued with an interim record of training valid for 30 days. This can be used to operate machinery until your Photo Gold Card licence is received (usually within 5-10 days after payment).

Licences are issued by the Telescopic Handler Association of Australia (TSHA). The card is valid for 5 years and the cost to renew for a further 5 years is then $50.

Why book Manitou training for your entire team

If multiple members of your team need a Manitou licence, you can book a group course with All Class Training. We offer team training for groups of six or more in-house, where your team members can use an industry-standard Manitou telehandler, learn the basics of operation and how to complete work safely and efficiently.

FAQs about our Manitou course

Do you need a HRW licence to operate a Manitou?

For non-slewing telehandlers in NSW, you will need to show competency (eg Statement of Attainment RIIHAN309E Conduct telescopic materials handler operations) if fitted with fixed or rotating forks, earthmoving bucket or other attachments except when fitted with a crane jib or hook or fitted with a work platform (where telehandler boom length exceeds 11m).

Where the telehandler is fitted with either a jib or a hook, a CN high-risk work licence is required and where a work platform is attached, you will need a WP class high-risk work licence.

What are the course requirements for Manitou training?

Participants will need to provide one form of a photo ID and be able to understand English. Suitable equipment and a state-of-the-art training facility will be provided by All Class Training.

Do I need a driver's licence to operate a Manitou?

No, you do not need a driver’s licence to operate a Manitou telehandler. However, you may need a HRW licence depending on the kind of Manitou you will be using in future. We recommend getting a HRW licence to ensure you can complete any tasks that are assigned to you later in your career.

Is there anything I can do to prepare for the course?

We will send course content via email for you to read before the course begins. This will give you some background knowledge and help prepare you for the final assessments (theory and practical).

What happens if I don’t pass the assessments?

You will need to be reassessed only on the sections you were deemed 'Not Yet Competent.' The reassessment must take place at least 48 hours and not more than 90 days after the original assessment.
